Flat Tire CHP weird night...

So I got settled in, and finally got to watch the Social Network when my dad calls me and tells me that my mom got a flat a few offramps from my place and asked me to accompany him so I can deal with AAA when they arrived. When I got there my mom told me that she was about 50ish feet from the offramp so she winged it and drove on the rim until she got to the base of the ramp and pulled over. Thats not where the amusement started. Its when I arrived and my parents took off when a CHP pulled over a station wagon for speeding or cutting lanes when exiting the freeway that amused me. The driver was a bit panicky and the CHP had to use his mic to make the driver pull foward more. The passenger got out and stood as the CHP ran wants and warrents. I guess the driver got off with a warning because I didn't see the CHP walk back to the car. 5 minutes later the driver pulled away leaving the passenger there. The AAA guy and I were kinda joking around bou this and finished putting the fugly spare on my mom's Prius. Speaking of which I need to leave a breaker bar in her car next time around.

I was hoping for a 5150 or 1199 call. But those are pretty rare to see in my area. No photos this time because I know better then to photograph a CHP officer when business is being handled and its not my affair.

Otterbox ipad grip

Works with the defender case for the iPad. Could work as a kneeboard in the military. Just a thought.

2010 Winter Solstice and Lunar Eclipse

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]Taken across the way from the Burlingame Driving Range, took a few minutes to get use to the processing plant nearby...

Aside from the crazy cloud cover I thought it turned out well. This time I used both my DSC-H50 and DSC-HX5 cameras. I forgot my gorrilapod this time so some cloverfield camera shots might be in the mix.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the San Jose Strings Quartet

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]Oddly a couple wearing Raider's gear wanted to be acknowledged in the Tank, so be it that security escorted them out when they were seat hopping  proud that they had done so.

Disregard email(s) sent by me in the past week.

My gmail account had been compromised by some(one/body/thing) in China. I've changed the password(s) to various accounts with a longer algorithm so I should be safe now. Now to find the culprit that caused this leak on my account, currently checking my PC with a thorough scan of malware/spyware and trojans.

Good Night and Good Luck.

Advice for soon to be veterans or Vets continuing higher education.

If your on your way out of the military to continue school, have some fail-safes in place.
  1. Have a rainy day fund in place if your not going to work part time.  Reason being that the VA takes roughly 2 months after you enroll in classes to start payment. A Student loan should be a last resort.
  2. Fresh out the military we don't qualify for FAFSA (If you start school in the same tax year, should apply anyway).
  3. Some schools partake in the Yellow Ribbon Program, funding may be limited to quantity or a cap on funding1.
  4. Army Reserves offer a $4000 Tuition Assistance provide that you have a good GPA2.
  5. Scholarship(s) there are many veteran friendly groups out there, especially for those who have been deployed. Try Military.com for sources.
  6. Take advantage of DANTES and CLEP exams, they save you a lot of time and money if you know your stuff.
  7. Weigh your options closely some colleges/universities accept MOS and militray professional development training for college credit, such as DeVry and University of Phoenix and some not as much like Cal State University San Jose or City College San Francisco...
In my opinion, the system is broken so don't apply for that $3,000 emergency check if its still available3. Convert your Montgomery GI Bill to the Post 9/11 GI bill if you still have time left or haven't used the bill yet.
VA is like any other government run agency slow and imbecile. If your are deployed currently or still Active Duty, and are lucky enough to get classes done, DO IT NOW, its free and might as well chisel away classes as early and quickly as possible.

I miss Active Duty, but not its shenanigans and the idiosyncrasy that come with it.
As a friend I did a tour recruiting preached to me, "Don't let college/(and/or the military) get in the way of your education", most cases its mainly you and sometimes them4.
Footnotes:
1 Depends on school and agreement with the VA, DeVry has $10,000 per fiscal year per student so it seems, whereas Academy of Art University is $4,000 per year.
2 You may not be eligable if you are enrolled in Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill)
3 The $3,000 emergency check is not offered anymore, regardless the VA is slow to process anything and very quick to ask for it back.
4 I am in no way responsible for how you chose to live or are living, the decision and actions all depend on you and yourself.
